  • I was very lucky to have a really funny teacher when I was young. He made life good, and he made me laugh. Later I had a really inspiring teacher too. By then, I was hooked.

Initially though, I was super thrilled to just hang out with great and funny people.

  • I love the Jazz Standards Songbook. All the great composers of love songs from the great era. Like Cole Porter, Gershwin, Johnny Mercer and so on.

  • I do love the music of New Orleans; the culture and the attitude very much resemble my own. A sense of good vibes even when everything is going wrong. Black American music is a music of parades, parties, and picnics.

  • I love them all, the big festival stage or the more intimate Jazz Clubs, it’s all pretty fantastic!

  • I love the music of Louis Armstrong. It’s so positive, bright, energetic, and extremely virtuosic. He’s a giant among giants.

  • I have some lovely people in my band. Anthony, Bronton, Mark, Sam, Tim, Louis, and Kane are great people to hang with. I like to have dinners, talk nonsense, and have fun, which is the vibe I try to create on stage.

  • Mostly long tones and quiet, controlled tones. They help with accuracy.

  • Yeah, we have an incredible 10-day festival every year called the Gentse Feesten. We are also running a New Orleans music festival in Perth every year as well.

  • The hardest part was figuring out what I wanted to do and then figuring out how to get there. Most of the best musical experiences happened with great people around. So don’t be afraid to work with people you like and use your imagination for new show ideas or opportunities.

  • I make mistakes on stage. Rarely do I pretend it’s intentional. But I do improvise with it and make it part of the music.
