• Was there any specific moment that influenced you to pursue a career in music? (음악을 전공하기 된 계기가 있으신가요?)

  I was naturally surrounded by music from a young age because of my parents. I started playing the piano and even thought I might become a pianist someday.

  But one day, I happened to hear the sound of the flute on TV, and I was completely captivated. The clear, beautiful tone lingered in my ears for days, and from that moment on, I wanted to express myself through that sound. That was the turning point when I decided to pursue music seriously.

  부모님의 영향으로 어릴 때부터 음악, 특히 악기와 자연스럽게 가까워졌어. 피아노를 치면서 자랐고, 한때는 피아니스트가 될 줄 알았어.

  우연히 TV에서 플룻 소리를 듣게 되었는데, 그 맑고 예쁜 음색에 완전히 매려되었어. 며칠 동안 귀에서 그 소리가 떠나질 않았고, 그때부터 그 소리로 내 마음을 표현하고 싶다는 생각을 했어. 그때가 음악을 전공하기 된 결정적인 계기였어.

• Do you have a favorite piece or a composer? (가장 좋아하는 곡이나 작곡가가 있으신가요?)

  I have many favorite pieces, but if I had to choose one, it would be Chaminade’s Concertino. It’s actually the piece that inspired me to start playing the flute. When I first heard it as a child, I fell in love with its graceful, flowing melody and thought, “I want to be able to play this someday!”

  좋아하는 곡이 많지만 특별히 하나를 꼽자면 샤미나드 콘체르토를 꼽고 싶어. 내가 플룻을 시작하게 된 계기가 된 곡이야. 어릴 때 이 곡을 처음 들었을 때, 예쁘고 빠르게 흘러가는 선율에 반해서 ‘언젠가 이 곡을 꼭 성공시켜봐야지!’라는 마음이 생겼거든.

• Which particular works/composers do you think you perform the best? (본인이 생각하기에 어떤 특정 종류의 곡이나 작곡가의 곡을 가장 잘 연주한다고 생각하나요?)

  I think I express French Impressionist music the best. Composers like Debussy and Fauré suit my style well, as their works demand delicate emotions and flexibility in tone. I’m also drawn to pieces with strong contrasts and emotional depth; music that moves and breathes rather than remains still.

  나는 프랑스 인상주의 음악을 가장 잘 표현하는 편이라고 생각해. 특히 드뷔시나 포레의 곡처럼 섬세한 감정과 음색의 유연함을 요구하는 음악이 내 연주 스타일과 잘 맞는 것 같아. 또 감정적으로 휘몰아치거나 강약의 대비가 확실한 곡을 좋아하는 편이야. 음악이 고요하게 머무르기보다는 살아 움직이는 느낌이 좋아.

• Which performance are you most proud of or resonates with you the most? (특별히 가장 자랑스럽거나 기억에 남는 공연이 있으신가요?)

  Unlike when I was a student, I’ve recently been exploring a wider range of performances. I’ve been experimenting with blending classical music with K-pop, pop songs, film scores, and even game soundtracks, arranging familiar tunes in a classical style to make the genre feel more approachable. It’s both technically and emotionally challenging to express those styles, but when I feel a genuine connection with the audience afterward, it feels like my efforts are rewarded.

  학생 때와는 다르게 최근에는 다양한 무대를 시도하고 있어. K-pop이나 팝송, 영화음악, 게임음악 등 대중적으로 알려진 곡들을 클래식 스타일로 편곡해서 연주하고 있어. 클래식이 조금 더 친근하게 느껴졌으면 하는 마음에서였지. 하지만 그런 곡들을 악기로 표현하는 건 기술적으로나 감정적으로 쉽지 않았는데 연주 후 관객들과의 교감이 느껴졌을 때, 그 모든 노력이 보상받는 기분이 들어.

• Which musician do you like the most, or are you most influenced by? (가장 좋아하거나 영향을 많이 받은 연주자가 누구인가요?)New Item

  I’m deeply inspired by Emmanuel Pahud. His sound carries both clarity and warmth, and his phrasing always tells a story. I often study his performances to learn how he breathes life into every single note.

  가장 영향을 많이 받는 연주자는 에마뉘엘 파후야. 맑고 따뜻한 음색, 그리고 음악적 프레이징 속에 이야기가 느껴지는 연주가 인상적인 이유 탓이지. 그의 연주를 들으며 한 음 한 음에 생명을 불어넣는 방식을 많이 배워.

• What do you do offstage that inspires your musical artistry onstage? (삶의 어떤 부분들이 음악적 영감을 주나요?)

  I actually listen to a wide range of music, not just classical. But when I’m alone, I enjoy silence. I like spending quiet moments, almost like meditation, simply being present with my emotions. Strangely enough, those still moments often help me pour out deeper feelings into music when I pick up my instrument again.

  사실 클래식 곡보다는 다양한 장르의 음악을 많이 들어. 그리고 혼자 있을 때는 적막함을 즐기는 편이야. 마치 명상하듯이 고요하게 하루하루 제 감정에 잠겨 있으면, 오히려 그런 시간이 쌓일수록 악기를 잡았을 때 더 깊게 감정을 쏟아낼 수 있는 것 같아.

• Do you have any unique practice techniques or routines? (자신만의 특별한 연습 방법이나 루틴이 있나요?)

  I always begin my practice with long tones and breathing exercises because they help me focus both mentally and physically. I believe that mastering the fundamentals is the key to playing any instrument. I also like to record myself frequently because listening back allows me to notice subtle nuances that can easily go unnoticed while performing.

  항상 롱톤, 호흡 연습으로 시작해. 마음과 몸을 동시에 집중시킬 수 있어서 그렇게 해. 기본기 연습이 가장 중요하다고 생각해. 또 연습할 때 자주 녹음해서 들어보는 편이야. 연주 중에는 놓치기 쉬운 뉘앙스를 객관적으로 확인할 수 있거든.

• Are there any exciting performances you’ve planned? (설레는 추후 공연이나 계획이 있나요?)

  Yes! I’m currently preparing a performance that blends classical and popular music. The arranging process isn’t always easy, but I truly enjoy trying new ideas and experimenting with different styles. I believe this program will reflect my musical identity, and I’m already looking forward to sharing it with the audience.

• What have been the greatest challenges of your career so far and how did you overcome them? (지금까지 음악하면서 가장 큰 도전이나 힘든 순간이 언제였고 어떻게 극복하셨나요?)

  The most difficult time for me was during my entrance exam period, when I wasn’t sure if I was truly on the right path. It was tough because I often felt anxious when my progress was slow, as I had to prove myself purely with the results. But each time, I reminded myself why I started music in the first place and focused on steady growth rather than perfection. I’ve come to realize that music is a lifelong journey, not a race.

  가장 힘들었던 순간은 이 길이 맞는지 확신이 서지 않을 때였어. 입시 때였지. 결과로 보여줘야 하는 시기였기에, 발전이 더딜 때마다 조급해지기도 했어. 하지만 그럴 때마다 처음 음악을 시작한 이유를 떠올리고, 완벽보다는 꾸준한 성장을 목표로 삼았어. 음악은 평생의 여정이라는 걸 받아들이게 된 것 같아.

• How do you keep your students motivated to practice, especially when they face difficulties? (학생들이 어려움에 부딪혔을 때에도 연습에 대한 동기를 유지할 수 있도록 어떻게 도와주시나요?)

  When students face challenges, I set small goals for them and celebrate together whenever they achieve them. I also help them recall the reasons they fell in love with music in the first place. Experiencing even small accomplishments on their own naturally builds motivation.

  I pay close attention to each student and adapt my teaching method to suit them, finding the perfect fit for each individual. That’s why I combine explanations, demonstrations, and fun games to create a tailored learning experience.

  학생들이 어려움에 부딪혔을 때는 작은 목표를 세우고 성취를 함께 축하하도록 해. 또한 처음 음악을 사랑하게 된 이유를 떠올리게 해주기도 해. 작은 성취라도 스스로 느끼면 자연스럽게 동기가 생기거든.

  그리고 학생 한 명 한 명을 관찰하며 수업 방식을 맞추며 그 학생과 잘 맞는 수업 방식을 찾는 것 같아. 내가 설명, 시범, 게임 등 다양한 방법을 섞어 맞춤형으로 수업을 진행하는 이유야.

• What are some of the artistic or personal goals you're striving toward as a musician? (음악가로서 어떤 예술적이나 개인적 목표를 향해 노력하고 계신가요?)

  Artistically, I aim to broaden my repertoire and explore a wide range of musical styles, blending different genres while maintaining a strong foundation in classical music.

  Personally, I aim to focus on inspiring others, particularly young musicians, to experience joy and build confidence through music.

  예술적으로는 레퍼토리를 넓히고 다양한 음악 스타일을 탐구하며, 장르를 접목하되 클래식적 기반은 탄탄히 유지하는 것을 목표로 하고 있어.

  개인적으로는 다른 사람, 특히 젊은 음악가들에게 음악에서 즐거움과 자신감을 느끼도록 영감을 주는 것이 내 요즘 목표야.
